What kind of sushi did I have…? (Exotic Set…kinda)?
Okay, so I’m living in Tokyo and I like going to those little restaurants that are on the 6th floor of buildings 3 blocks away from the main streets.
I ordered a sushi set that looked different from the norm to try new foods.
Okay, I figured out that one of them was ikura, one was uni…
– One was like a whole crayfish-type thing. Eyes, brains, and stomach fluid squirting everywhere as I took it apart with my chopsticks
– One was a nigiri-zushi… a thin slice of white fish that was very very firm and hard to eat. Not like octopus or squid chewy, but like… literally hard. And it seemed like it was a slice from a fish.
– One was a pretty big slice of fish. It had a silver stripe of scales with a very deep brown/magenta flesh. Also nigiri-zushi.
The first one is Humpback shrimp commonly called as Botan Ebi.

The second one is a muscle part of Japanese flatfish, Hirame, and it is hard in texture because it is taken from the part close to fins. The part is called as Engawa.

The last one may be Skipjack tuna, or Katsuo.
