Raw Fish/Sashimi while Pregnant
I’m pregnant, and my friend treated me to a Japanese restaurant today because I was having huge sushi cravings. I ate a lot of sushi, 5 of them being a high mercury fish. I did not know that it had a high mercury content. My friend kept insisting that, because it was also a type of snapper, it had low mercury content, thus okay for pregnant women. I came back and found out that goldeneye snapper is ranked up there with sharks and blue-fin tunas in terms of mercury level. I am 10 weeks along. Have I already damaged my baby’s nervous system?
Mercury is released into the body very slowly. Make sure you have no more fish with any amount of mercury (even the low mercury fish) for about 3 months.
