Popular Japanese Food from a Japanese Restaurant in Tampa FL

People around the world have grown to love Japanese Food. This is why in every major city in almost every country, including the United States, you can easily find a Japanese restaurant or a sushi bar offering tempura, nigiri sushi, makimono sushi and sashimi. The same is true in Tampa FL.

People who are not yet familiar with Japanese food are sometimes not yet bold enough to have a taste of sushi and sashimi. They usually enjoy tempura, though, in Tampa FL Japanese restaurants.

Tempura can be made from either seafood or vegetables. These are coated with a special batter and deep fried to a crisp. The usual seafood for this dish include prawns, shrimps, fish fillet, squid, scallops and crabmeat while the usual vegetable include eggplant, okra, mushrooms, sweet potato, yam, squash, bell pepper, carrot and green beans. The crisp tempura is dipped into a sauce made from broth (dashi), rice wine (mirin) and soy sauce (shoyu) with a dash of pungent wasabi paste.

A diner who knowingly orders sashimi at a Japanese restaurant is not a timid diner. He or she is most probably already well versed in Japanese food. Sashimi is a very simple dish because it is nothing but the freshest raw seafood that is dipped in soy sauce with wasabi paste. Sashimi is an acquired taste but a lot of people get easily hooked on it and soon begin to crave it. The usual seafood used for sashimi are salmon, tuna, mackerel, yellowtail, shrimp, squid, sea urchin and scallops.

Sushi is very similar to sashimi in terms of having fresh raw seafood, but sushi also has other ingredients included, foremost of which is vinegared rice. It is also dipped in soy sauce with wasabi paste. This is one of the most popular types of Japanese food. Proof of this are the numerous sushi restaurants or sushi bars you can see everywhere, including Tampa FL.

The more common type of sushi is nigiri sushi. Nigiri sushi is a manually shaped oblong mound of vinegared rice swiped with wasabi paste and topped with fresh raw seafood such as the ones used in sashimi, or cooked octopus, eel, squid or scrambled egg. If the toppings of the nigiri sushi are too soft or loose, like fresh Raw Fish Roe, oysters, sea urchin or corn with mayonnaise, a strip of nori is used to contain the toppings. This is very popular in Tampa FL.

Makimono sushi is another type of sushi. Rather than having toppings, though, it has fillings which are then rolled into vinegared rice and nori with the use of a special bamboo mat. The resulting delicious tube is sliced into thick slabs. Well loved makimono sushi fillings are tuna, crab meat, avocado, cucumber, carrot slivers and mayonnaise with a bit of wasabi paste. Also considered as a variant of makimono sushi is temaki. To make temaki, a big sheet of nori is formed into a cone measuring some four inches long, containing the mixture of vinegared rice and fillings. The soy sauce is drizzled into it. The temaki can quickly disintegrate so it has to be consumed rapidly. It can be ordered as well from any sushi restaurant or sushi bar in Tampa FL.

Japanese Restaurants and sushi bars are always filled with diners of all nationalities enjoying tempura, nigiri sushi, makimono sushi and sashimi, as well as other dishes. Although wasabi can be overwhelming, its unique flavor can also become a constant craving. Whether you are already a fan of Japanese food or you are one of those who still want to try it for the first time, you can never go wrong with Tomo Japanese Restaurant in Tampa FL.
