How safe is supermarket Bought Sashimi Grade Sushi?
Was just wondering how safe it is to buy “Sashimi grade” salmon and tuna from the local Japanese supermarket is. do i need to worry about getting parasites at all? how significant is the danger? I’ve read online that people have actually found live worms in their supposedly “sashimi grade” fish.
I know its supposed to be frozen before serving, but when does this happen? On the Boat? At the Processing plant? At the supermarket?
Any info that would allow me to enjoy homemade sushi with peace of mind would be much appreciated. Thanks!
I’ve bought salmon fillets from the deli in the local supermarket before, and it was delicious as sashimi. No different to buying in a restaurant. Highly doubtful you have to worry about parasites. I’m sure it’s as rare as anything, and if they were there, I’m sure you would find them before you ate the fish. The Japanese and others have been doing it for 1000′s of years.
