Raw Fish Toxin

Are sardines bad for cats?

Sometimes I feed my cat Brunswick brand sardines in spring water. I take them out of the can and rinse them well to get off any excess salt. Is this bad for a cat? I feed raw, and include sardines as part of the diet (yes, I know they aren’t raw – that’s why I’m asking this, looking to change it if I can find something better)….

I would like to know what types of fish are good for cats. Please tell me what fish is low in the enzyme thiaminaze that depletes Vitamin B1 (thiamin) and is also high in Omega 3s and 6s and low in toxins like mercury. Any miracle fish out there?? LOL…

I would prefer NOT to feed Fish Oil if possible, as I enjoy feeding whole food whenever possible.

thanks much!

Hmm…you could try salmon, mackerel (one of my cat books – can’t remember off the top of my head — has a treat recipe for cats made with salmon, my cat loves that). Just stay away from tuna (mercury!).

There’s no miracle fish, in today’s environment with pollution and all. Just research the types and the sources. Each will have pros and cons. You’ll just have to weigh them.
