Cichlid Fish sick!!!?
Ok I have a Flower Horn Cichlid and he has now developed a white spot on his right side above his fin. This happened once before with sting rays, but it has been awhile. Anyways, once the white stuff “falls” off it goes to raw skin. My water is fine and there is nothing that seems to be wrong I have done all of the standard checks. The reason I ask what this is, is because this is the 2nd time that it has happened to something in my tank and I kinda would like to know what it is. Because it is not Ich something simple like that to fix. Lets just say that my sting rays didn’t make it and I kinda don’t want to loose another fish to this stupid disease.
Very common Hole-In-The-Head Disease.
Even though you said your water is ok here are some of the symptoms:
1) The cause of this condition is Hexamita Protozoa , parasitic organisms that are highly contagious.
2)These parasites thrive with poor water quality management.
3) If your fish has this condition, you will notice the appearance of small pits and pimples mainly on the fish’s head. These pits will simply grow and form bigger pits. The pits are white in color, and sometimes mucous are visible around them.
4) In addition to losing weight, becoming lethargic, and losing their appetites, the fish will produce white, stringy feces.
How to treat it:
1)Add Dimetrydazole (5mg/l) or Metronidazole (7mg/l).
Repeat treatment once every 3 days.
2) Do a 20%-30% water change.
How to prevent it:
1) Change your water regularly.
2) Quarantine new fish for three to four weeks.
3) Avoid cross-tank contamination.
