Would a native Japanese understand this?
If I wrote everything in Hiragana, would I still be understood?
If I wrote simple words like:
すし and たな would a Japanese speaker still know I mean sushi and what if I didn’t write them in kanji or katakana?
Sorry, I mean なに.
We would be able to understand as long as a sentence is written properly.
As Kacchan says, however, some words has same hiragana writing,
and that might cause some confusion.
For example,
わたしは、かきをたべました。
watashi wa kaki wo tabemashita.
‘kaki’ can be ‘oyster’ or ‘persimmon’ in this sentence, so the translation can be
‘I ate an oyster’ or ‘I ate a persimmon’
それはなし
sore wa nashi
‘nashi’ can be ‘pear’ or ‘nothing’ in this sentence, so the translation can be
‘It is a pear’ or ‘That doesn’t count’
